About Us

The Wild Horse Volunteer Fire Department was established by the WHRLA Board of Directors in 2000.

The Catron County Commission wrote the Resolution creating the District in May of 2001.

The District is 12 miles wide and 5 miles long for a total of 60 square miles.

The District includes the seven phases of private land within the subdivision, as well as State land and BLM land.  WHVFD will provide the Initial Attack for the the State and BLM land and offer assistance after the State and Federal employees arrive.

Our current Insurance Services Rating (ISO) is a 9.  On a scale of 1-10, the best being a 1.  The WHVFD reduced it original rating of a 10 to a 9 on July of 2003. We will continue to strive to lower our rating even more with the addition of our 3000 gallon tanker and several water storage tanks projected to be set up throughout the subdivision.

The lower our rating, the lower your homeowner insurance premiums will be.
