The WHVFD firefighters have completed several advanced wildland fire classes.
In February, they completed the S-131 or Advanced Fire Fighter Type 1 and the S-200 or Initial Attack Incident Commander.
In March, they completed the S-230 Crew Boss and S-231 Engine Boss classes.

Zina McGuire, the Catron County Wildfire Prevention Coordinator has applied for the 2nd New Mexico Association of Counties Hazard Fuels Reduction Grant for Wild Horse Ranch.

On October 13, 2006, the Wild Horse Volunteer Fire Department was notified by the NM Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department that they had been awarded a Grant for $100,000 to purchase a new wildland fire brush truck.
