Fire Department Profile
The Wild Horse Volunteer Fire Department was established by the Wild Horse Ranch Landowners Association "Board of Directors" in the year 2000.
After a year of Probation by the State of NM, the County Resolution was passed by the Catron County Commission on May 21, 2001 and the Wild Horse Fire District 12 was born.
Funding is received by the Fire Department from the NM State Fire Funds that total $43,628.00 each year.
$11,330.00 is taken out each year for the NM Finance Authority loan payment on the new 2004 Engine, and approximately $6,000 for insurance on the fire station, equipment and responders when on duty.
Total operating dollars equal $26,298.00 for the next 7 years, at which time the Engine will be paid for.
Donations and fund-raisers represent the other source of funding for the department.
WHVFD is a current member of the Catron County Fire Chief's Assoc., the NM State Fire Fighters Assoc., the International Assoc. of Fire Chiefs, the National Fire Corps Assoc., the National Volunteer Fire Council, the National Fire Protection Assoc.
A recent landowner comment regarding the Wild Horse Volunteer Fire Department came from Maria Major-Linsey regarding her Homeowners' insurance Policy. "Thank you WHVFD for saving me a total of $155.00 on my insurance policy. Keep up the good work and Thank You for all the volunteer time and effort your members put in."
The WHVFD members consist of the "Emergency Operations Team" and "Fire Corps members".
